Estimation Cheat Sheet

A note before we begin: not every system design interview requires detailed capacity estimates. It is always a good idea to check with your interviewer if it is necessary. Avoid going into too much detail. You do not want to waste your precious interview time doing math calculations without a calculator.

That said, getting a rough idea of the request rate and storage requirements almost always helps guide your design decisions.
